Forrest Gump Analysis
Forrest Gump Watching Forrest Gump just because I feel that the film has a tad bit of everything in it, from activity and war to love and sentiment. For one man to defeat such huge numbers of difficulties and carry on with an actual existence loaded with affection and joy it is rousing. Each character had something that arrived at watchers. From Jenny to Lieutenant Dan they all had something that made them simple to associate with. Indeed, even the individuals that sat on the seat close to Forrest made intrigue; they tuned in and were in the story for us, yet were not genuinely part of it.Forrest Gump could be alluded to as inept, however I accept that the manner in which he attempts to comprehend his general surroundings and make the best of everything is fairly sharp. At the point when the film starts we start from Forrestââ¬â¢s youth. We find out about the elevated requirements that his mom had for him. We see that he is desolate, and we see his developing affection for Jenny. For a kid that is tormented so a lot and has such a large number of obstructions throughout his life he cherishes profoundly. Because of his psychological incapacities, Forrest turned into the casualty of scholastic segregation, yet as she will consistently be him mother battles for him to have indistinguishable open doors from the other children. She totally has confidence in Forrest and needs him to be as well as can be expected be. During this phase of his life I thought of Eriksonââ¬â¢s industry versus mediocrity idea. During that time youngsters should move in the direction of acing information and scholarly abilities. (Santrock, 2011 p23) The negative chance of not acing those aptitudes would be that kids would feel bumbling and inefficient. As Forrest Gump develops he despite everything keeps up his psychological inability, yet his athletic capacities have begun to have any kind of effect in his life.He runs so quick that he gets approached to play football for the Universi ty of Alabama. In spite of the fact that he develops more seasoned he despite everything has the honesty of a kid. During his youth where most others are exploring different avenues regarding sex he appears to be nearly annoyed with the thought. He cherishes Jenny yet when she pursues for sexual contact with him he looks hurt and befuddled by it. This phase in his life he would be experiencing Eriksonââ¬â¢s character versus character disarray. (Santrock, 2011 p 23) During this time people are attempting to make sense of who they re and what they will do throughout everyday life. In the event that the immature investigates in a solid manner, at that point they will shape a positive personality; in any case, on the off chance that they battle and make some troublesome memories, at that point it might bring about proceeded with character disarray. Forrest was a functioning piece of numerous significant occasions including fights integration, the Vietnam War, hostile to war activism, Black Panther Party gatherings, and the Ping Pong strategy period. Those significant occasions ought to have had any kind of effect to him, however he experienced everything as though it didnââ¬â¢t truly influence him.During the entire film he appeared to be totally negligent of the centrality of everything that was going on around him and the part he played in those occasions. Forrestââ¬â¢s for the most part ecstatic air and oblivious nature stood out cruelly from Jenny. Jenny Curran as a kid was Forrest Gumpââ¬â¢s closest companion and conceivably his solitary companion. Jenny has an a lot harsher life at home than Forrest has. While Forrest has a caring mother that raises him Jenny has a damaging father. Jenny invested a great deal of energy with Forrest as a youngster since she didnââ¬â¢t need to be alone.Jenny and Forrest resembled ââ¬Å"peas and carrotsâ⬠. At the point when they were youthful Jenny instructed Forrest how to peruse, and Forrest shared his smo oth, cheerful demeanor with her. At the point when Jenny is youthful after Forrest approaches her home and sees the manner in which her dad treats her they run into the fields attempting to get as distant from her home as could be expected under the circumstances. Jenny tumbles to the cold earth and appeals to God to cause her a fledgling so she to can fly far away. There are numerous formative results of maltreatment on kids. Santrock, 2011 p 258) Some of the results of misuse and abuse in youth and immaturity are poor passionate guideline, connection issues, issues in peer relations, trouble adjusting to class and other mental issues, for example, misery and wrongdoing. The maltreatment that Jenny continued in her adolescence caused issues for an incredible duration. As a youthful grown-up Jenny went to an all girlsââ¬â¢ school while Forrest played football at the University of Alabama. This was the start of Forrestââ¬â¢s achievement and Jennyââ¬â¢s terrible decisions.Jen ny began playing with young men and getting in a tough situation. Forrest safeguarded her from being with a person, yet Jenny couldn't leave herself alone near Forrest despite the fact that her thought about her profoundly. Her awful conduct made her be kicked out of school. Jenny concluded that she needed to turn into a popular artist, yet incidentally she wound up singing exposed in a strip club. Again Forrest safeguarded her and again she was unreasonable and wound up abandoning the one individual in her life that thought about her most. Whenever Jenny is seen she had been investing energy with flower children at hostile to war protests.Forrest attempts to get Jenny out of another oppressive relationship, yet she doesnââ¬â¢t need to be spared and leaves Forrest once more. At the point when Jenny experienced Eriksonââ¬â¢s character versus personality disarray (Santrock, 2011 p 23) phase her past maltreatment made her settle on an inappropriate decisions and left her in proce eded with character disarray. Each time we see Jenny in the film she is into medications and running with an inappropriate group. During the grown-up years, individuals who were manhandled as youngsters regularly have a trouble keeping up solid grown-up relationships.According to Miller-Perrin, Perrin, Kocur (Santrock, 2011 p 258) those grown-ups are at a higher hazard for brutal conduct toward different grown-ups particularly dating accomplices and conjugal accomplices just as substance misuse , tension and sadness. During New Yearââ¬â¢s Eve 1972 Jenny examines self destruction, by then she has contacted her most reduced and we see her alter her perspective and leave ideally to improve. The remainder of the film is a rollercoaster of feeling for Jenny and Forrest. Forrest needs simply to be with the main lady other than his mom that he has cherished his whole life. When Jenny and Forrest are at last together Forrest thought they would have been together perpetually, and Jenny fle d once more. Her past maltreatment leaves her scared of both trusting Forrest to cherish her and permitting herself to feel deserving of being adored. Before the finish of the film, Jenny has at last gotten herself. After Forrest invested his energy after her leaving running for a long time, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours she at last needs to see him. From their night together she had gotten pregnant and had a child that she named Forrest.Perhaps it was having a youngster that helped settle Jenny into adulthood or possibly she had recently at long last grappled with the enduring impacts of misuse, yet she chose to wed Forrest and live with him for her outstanding time alive. In that time that she is a spouse and mother she takes a gander settled than any time in recent memory. It took Jenny her entire life to deal with the maltreatment she suffered as a youngster and the maltreatment she exposed herself to as a grown-up. She encountered a harsh dad, played out occupations, oppressi ve sweethearts and grabby clients, medications and contemplations of self destruction before she could leave herself alone cherished by Forrest.During Forrest Gumpââ¬â¢s time in the military he meets Lt. Dan Taylor. Despite the fact that Lt. Dan is all the more a fringe character, his battles fit well with the film. Lieutenant Dan Taylor was naturally introduced to a family with the glad military custom that somebody in his family had kicked the bucket in each American war. He was sent to Vietnam during the Vietnam War and doled out to the fourth detachment where he met Bubba and Forrest. While serving in Vietnam is was apparent that he was suspicious of marksmen and shock assaults as a rule. At the point when his unit experienced a snare he required a Napalm drop.During the trap he was hit in the legs, and was sure that his opportunity had arrived to satisfy the family heritage of biting the dust in that war. In any case, Forrest Gump as he continued looking for his fallen close st companion Bubba runs over Lt. Dan and conveys him and numerous other men to wellbeing. Lt. Dan is sent to a field emergency clinic and his legs are cut off. Forrest Gump is brought to a similar emergency clinic and Lt. Dan goes up against Forrest about sparing him. He is exceptionally vexed that he didnââ¬â¢t get the chance to pass on like other men in the family and feels that his predetermination has been destroyed. As of now Lt.Dan is dealing with his conceivable selves (Santrock, 2011 p 602). As he is recouping from his twofold removal he needs to consider the existence that he had, the demise he thought he would have, and the existence he is left as an amputee. Lt. Dan is in the end released because of his impairment and he winds up in New York City. He invests his energy in the wake of being released living in New York, perhaps off the administration or projects for harmed veterans. He lives in a trashy inn room and beverages substantially to an extreme. He appears as th ough he has been carrying on with a hard life since his time in the military. On New Yearââ¬â¢s Eve he gets together with Forrest again and despite the fact that he despite everything has not dealt with Forrest sparing his life, he treats Forrest like a companion. He safeguards Forrest from the ladies he had over and guarantees Forrest to be his first mate on the off chance that he ever turns into the commander of a shrimping vessel. When Forrest really purchases a shrimping pontoon Lt. Dan turns into the main mate. Lt. Dan guides Forrest to where he accepts there will be shrimp which prompts numerous disappointments. While out angling Lt. Dan and Forrest suffer Hurricane Carmen. Lt.Dan is at the most noteworthy point that the pontoon brings to the table shouting and testing God. Now Lt. Dan appears to deal with the existence he has ben managed. Lt. Dan looks all the more decidedly on life after this point and even says thanks to Forrest for sparing his life. The tropical storm de vastated the whole armada of shrimping pontoons in Bayou La Batre, exc

Los peces en el rÃÂo Lyrics in Spanish and English
One of the most popularà Christmas carols written in Spanish is Los peces en el rà o, although it is little known outside of Spain and Latin America. It draws a contrast between between the fishes in the river, who are excited about the birth of the baby Jesus, and the Virgin Mary, who goes about doing the chores of daily life. According to the Valencian news site Las Provincias, both the author and composer of Los peces en el rà o, and even when it was written, are unknown. The song gained popularity in the second half of the 20th century, and the structure and tonality of the song show Arabic influence. The carol isnt standardizedââ¬âsome versions include several more verses than the ones listed below, and some of them vary slightly in the words used. Lyrics of one popular version are shown below along with a fairly literal English translation and a singable interpretation. Beben y bebeny vuelven a beber.Los peces en el rà opor ver a Dios nacer. La Virgen lava paà ±alesy los tiende en el romero, los pajarillos cantando,y el romero floreciendo. CHORUS:But look at how the fishesin the river drink. But look how they drinkin order to see God born. They drink and they drinkand they return to drink, the fishes in the river,to see God being born. The Virgin washes diapersand hangs them on the rosemary, the birdies singingand the rosemary blooming.flowering CHORUSThe virgin is washing herselfwith a little bit of soap. Her hands have been irritated, the hands of my heart. CHORUS The Fishes in the River (Singable Interpretation of Los peces en el rà o) The Virgin Mary combs her precious hairas she gives thanks for her baby.Even she cannot understand whyGod chose her to be a mother. CHORUS The Virgin Mary washes precious hands, hands to take care of the babyHow Im in awe of those busy, busy hands, hands to take care of my Savior. CHORUS (English lyrics by Gerald Erichsen. All rights reserved.) Vocabulary and Grammar Notes Los peces en el rà o: In standard Spanish, only the first word of titles of songs and other compositions is capitalized, except for words that are always capitalized, such as proper nouns. Se està ¡ peinando is an example of a reflexive verb in a continuous or progressive tense. Peinar usually means to comb, rake, or cut something; in the reflexive form, it typically refers to combing ones hair. Entre is a common preposition usually meaning between or among. Cabellos is the plural of cabello, a lesser-used and more formal synonym of pelo, meaning hair. It can be used both as a reference to individual hairs or the entire head of hair. Cabello is relatedà to cabeza, a word for the head. Beber is a very common verb meaning to drink. Mira is a direct informal command from the verb mirar. à ¡Mira! is a very common way of saying, Look! Por is another common preposition. It is used in many ways, one of them, as here, to indicate the reason the motive or reason for doing something. Thus por ver can mean in order to see. Nacido is the past participle of nacer, meaning to be born. Vuelven comes from the verb volver. Although volver usually means to return, volver a is usually a way of saying that something occurs again. Romero comes from the Latin ros maris, from where English gets the word rosemary. Romero can also refer to a pilgrim, but in that case romero comes from the name of the city of Rome. Cantando and floreciendo (as well as peinando in the first line) are the gerunds of cantar (to sing) and florecer (to flower or bloom) respectively. They are used here as adjectives, which is uncommon in standard Spanish prose but is often done in poetry and picture captions. Pajarillo is a diminutive form of pà ¡jaro, the word for bird. It could refer to any small bird or a bird that is thought of affectionately. Se le han picado is an example of a reflexive verb used in a passive sense. The subject of the sentence (las manos) here follows the verb phrase; the sentence could be literally translated as the hands have bittenà themselves. Mano is one of the very few nouns that runs counter to the rules of gender by being feminine while ending in o.

The Right Same Sex Marriage - 1888 Words
Shay Cramblitt Andrea Colman English 03-28-15 The Right Same sex marriage is a topic today that brings strong moral objections from both sides. Should same sex marriage be allowed? Should these humans be given the same rights in their relationship as heterosexual couples? Why restricted these citizens from their right just because of their love interest? Should we take certain customs away from foreigners just because itââ¬â¢s not customs we perform? The United States is a land of the free not the restricted. We are not robots set to one program and one program alone every human being is an individual and they all do things their own way. If you were in their position you would want the same thing, to be happy. Homosexual couples haveâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Some say that ââ¬Å"love is blind,â⬠and they are right. Love is between the souls of two people, whether it be : a black male and white female, a black female and an Asian male, or male and another male love has no boundaries. When it happens and you fall in love, what do you do next? Well you pursue them of course! Why let your dreams fall apart just because of your soul mate ends up being the same sex as you. Then you find out itââ¬â¢s hopeless to purse your full dream itââ¬â¢s not legal to marry. Marriage belongs to everyone, itââ¬â¢s what we all wish for why rip that from someone. Why would you rip it away from yourself? A legal parent is defined as a person who has the right to live with a child and make decisions about the childââ¬â¢s education, well being and health. Legal parents must also support their children financially. When a heterosexual married couple has a child both parents are automatically considered to be the childââ¬â¢s legal parents. Even if the couple divorces, both parents still are legal parents of the child unlike homosexual couples who have to go through the legal system to find out the fate of the child. Some people say that children need a mother and a father to raise us; to provide both viewpoints of gender: masculinity, femininity and all the issues those entail. However, there are many who believe that gender does not matter when parenting. Homosexual partners bring children into their lives in a number of ways. In lesbian couples, frequently, one

string(215) " provides IT facilities for the students use, the university has an assets of almost 3000 PCââ¬â¢s and three servers which are used in a daily basis which unfortunately are not used appropriately and efficiently\." All the University in the world are focusing on environmental protection and improvement [1]. We are living in an era of Industrialization. We are consuming a lot more products In our lives as compared to our ancestors; this is to improve the quality of life by saving time, facilitating ourselves and much more. We will write a custom essay sample on Twa Task or any similar topic only for you Order Now Most of the world Industries are grown with certain pace and they have achieved maturity with the time. Then there are many environmental control authorities and regulatory authorities which enforce certain environmental protection laws upon them. But unfortunately as far as Environmental protection is concerned Information and Communication industry is growing at such a faster pace that such kind of controls re not fully implemented or observed by CIT industry[2]. This is a huge danger for the world environment. The main focus has mostly been upon competing with the competitors and introducing latest technology as fast in the market as possible. It is also consuming ever greater amounts of energy and is therefore the source of significant CA emissions. According to calculation IT now causes the release of as much carbon dioxide Into the atmosphere as nearly 320 million cars, worldwide IT help curb this alarming trend. Simply by consistently Implementing known energy- conserving approaches, the CA emitted by IT systems can be nearly halved Green ITâ⬠is what analysts, manufacturers and providers call all IT solutions that save energy at business organizations. These include hardware, software and services. Where hardware is concerned, energy-efficient desktop PCââ¬â¢s, thin-client architectures and data-center hardware offer answers, and so do energy supply and cooling systems[2]. In the software and service area, there is significant potential In fertilization, in solutions for dynamic capacity management and data-center planning, and in storage-system off shoring. You cannot purchase or order Green IT directly, but intelligent solutions re available that contribute to sustainability. And with the Increasing convergence of IT and telecommunications, It possible to take the Green concept a step further[3]. The positive approaches of Green IT need to be combined with solutions from the Green ââ¬ËCT. Green CIT extends to other, less commonly considered aspects of the entire life cycle. This includes experienced procurement, employee behavior, running data centers on sustainable generated energy, environmentally sound disposal of used electrical equipment, and as much recycling as possible. CIT is not intrinsically ââ¬Å"greenâ⬠, because it itself consumes energy and raw materials. But CIT can be leveraged to make business processes more energy-efficient[l]. The main focus has mostly been upon competing with the competitors and introducing latest technology as fast in the market as possible. So the preliminary part of the project share some challenges which CIT Environmental control is facing on creating a Green CIT environment in the University. The goals of this project is to introducing and promoting Green Information and Communication Technology in the university[2]. This step of the project would then easily be implemented in the industry and all over the world. Due to rapid increase in Communication and computing technology we tend to face a very big issue of regular advancements in technology and the older technology tends to grow obsolete. This creates a lot of waste material, as most of the University is not creating communication and computing technologies in a way that they can be recycled. Definitely there is a lot of competition in the market and it would increase the production cost of the industry which is focusing on recycling as well[2]. But we intend to Join hands with the environmental control organizations and regulatory authorities which are working to aka it a compulsion on industry to produce recycle able products. Then we will also focus that this industry must make low power consumption CIT products. Also in their manufacturing they must also work on reducing their power consumption by making their systems efficient. As it focusing on conserving energy and making environment better, it include the advantage of using CIT products in the environment for telecommuting[3]. Review :Current technology ââ¬â Recently applied technologies which reduces CA A closer look at how CIT causes carbon dioxide emissions reveals two main culprits: University office desktop environments and data enters. Most of ââ¬ËCT-related CA emissions are caused by desktop computers and their monitors, and another by servers and cooling systems. We will therefore begin by discussing ways for Green CIT to reduce CA emissions in University office environments and in data centers[3]. Green CIT not only protects the environment by reducing the emissions emitted by CIT itself. When effectively and comprehensively applied, it can contribute much more. In University office environments, there is a long and established practice of replacing conventional means of communication with CIT applications. To a large extent, hardcopy letters (along with the corresponding paper consumption, transportation and logistics) have been replaced by e-mail and testing[l]. Further savings potential lies in the creation of electronic work processes. This includes digitizing, archiving and distributing documents by e-mail or uploading them to a website making them available for all downstream operations. This generates savings in terms of paper, energy consumption and CA. Today, innovative solutions are available for high-tech ââ¬Å"pensâ⬠integrated digital process, saving process costs and preventing information loss[2]. Thin clients are much more energy-efficient than conventional desktop PCââ¬â¢s, reducing CA emissions and the cost of purchase and operation. Replacing a desktop PC with a thin client reduces the CA emissions of the desktop system. Thin clients are much lighter and more compact, and consist of fewer components ââ¬â yielding benefits with regard to transportation, disposal, and consumption of materials. Green CIT can improve business processes that are not directly involved in ââ¬ËCT, and dramatically lower CA emissions throughout the process chain. It is here that its true potential becomes apparent that CIT now accounts for global CA emissions. But Green CIT can also help significantly reduce the CA emissions not caused by CIT[2]. Rationale and Systems Analysis According to the IT director of the University of Bradford, the campus provides IT facilities for the students use, the university has an assets of almost 3000 PCââ¬â¢s and three servers which are used in a daily basis which unfortunately are not used appropriately and efficiently. You read "Twa Task" in category "Papers" However, at peak times the students use around 1 500 PCââ¬â¢s, which basically is half of the PCââ¬â¢s of the university. So in order to avoid power loss, an assets management system will be designed and applied within the campus. On the other hand, university servers use up to 27. 1 % of the campusââ¬â¢s energy, so a new cooling system is already being installed in order to reduce the energy costs and the CA emissions. In addition to that, the estimation of the base load is around 20% of the energy which is considered highly utilized; a vast amount of the energy worn needs a major reduction as much as possible. Therefore, an investigation will be undertaken to identify different solutions which participate in the base load reduction . An initial plan will be designed to be employed within the campus. Since he students are considered a major contributor towards the energy usage. An awareness event will take place in the campus to help students understand the concept of the green technology. During this week simple energy efficiency programs will be undertaken. While the campaign is taking place the energy usage will be monitored and observed before and after the event. Currently the biggest problem rising is that the number of students enrolled in the university is around 15000 students and assuming 90% of the students have their own PC or laptop. So the idea of applying the cloud computing will save an enormous amount of money and at name time it will reduce the CA emissions. So the idea of cloud computing offers an efficient way of solving this problem. A model building will be chosen and modifications will be applied to this building, the energy usage of the building before the modifications will be compared to the usage after the modifications. The results will basically show whether its sufficient to apply them or not. Solution research 1) CIT devices can be made power efficient Each and every University office desktop offers opportunities to save energy. This involves both energy-efficient use of equipment ND the use of energy-efficient equipment. Even without deploying any new workers to change their habits. University policies can be developed and published making employees aware of how they can contribute through the use of hibernation mode and power-management software for hardware, duplex printing, and generally avoiding unnecessary printouts. The latest generation of energy-conserving desktop PCââ¬â¢s, thanks to their better power units, storage technology and processors can slash energy costs[2]. State-of-threat LCD screens and thin-client architectures offer further opportunities for savings. The consistent, enterprise-wide deployment of energy-efficient and cost-saving equipment is a major challenge. Outsourcing the entire office CIT landscape is one way to implement Green CIT ââ¬â by minimizing the number of desktop computers and printers and maximizing their efficiency. University typically use a large number of, often different, devices for printing, faxing, copying and scanning. This complex landscape often leads to a lack of transparency, and there are often no accurate figures available on the total cost of operation[3]. However, the ratio of users to devices can be significantly improved by analyzing the rent infrastructure and actual user requirements: then changes can be made to the type, number and position of devices, ensuring better use is made of available capacity, and reducing stand-by and idle times. Thin clients are much more energy-efficient than conventional desktop PCââ¬â¢s. Thin clients are much lighter and more compact, and consist of fewer components ââ¬â yielding benefits with regard to transportation, disposal, and consumption of materials. Just getting to and from the University office inflicts considerable burdens on the environment: millions of commuters spend hours every day on roads, spewing immense amounts of exhaust gases into the atmosphere[3]. 2) CIT manufacturing industries can save a lot of money CIT devices consume 80% of power of their whole life during their manufacturing in the industry. Only 20% of the power is consumed during their operational life and industry is more focused on saving some percentage of this 20% power. Indeed it is of key importance but we are more concerned about the 80% part as by deploying energy efficient machinery we can save a lot of cost, by conserving energy. Manufacturing of CIT devices consumes a lot of natural resources like fossil fuels, water and chemicals. And due to regular advancement in the CIT industry a device has a life cycle of one to two years hardly[2]. Then in becomes obsolete. This then leads to another problem, there is hardly any professional recycling process or method introduced by industry so that the precious chemicals, iron, copper and other materials used in manufacturing can be properly disposed or recycled to conserve energy and resources. Then instead of throwing away or recycling these products we can focus on manufacturing and introducing products which can support and handle future development[l]. They can be upgraded. Manufacturers can get back this extra cost on recycle able design by getting benefit from recycling. But they only face time limitations due to high competition level. However there are regulatory authorities which are now focusing on implementing environmental laws on CIT manufacturers[2]. PER, extended producer responsibility is a concept owe a lot of responsibility in protecting environment from the wastes of their industries, high energy consumption and much more. 3) Consumers can become a force, by purchasing recycle able and upgrade able product But we as consumers owe a good share of this responsibility. We must purchase those CIT products which are recycle able, which can be upgraded, which consume low power and which are made in an energy efficient environment. In the university we will introduce only those CIT devices which are up to the mark on above mentioned standards, so that there might not be any harm to the environment. Then we will do research on efficient energy consumption products. We will try to make devices which utilize very little energy [2]. Also we will focus on understanding the up gradation possibilities of less efficient industrial machinery in CIT industry. We must focus on the fundamental sign of the CIT products, because it is only at this stage that we can design devices which can be upgraded and recycled. We will try to limit as much as possible the use of toxic chemicals in the manufacturing of CIT products because if not recycled, these chemicals destroy our environment which is largely the case at this time. And we must understand that it is a global responsibility, this message from our research must prevail in the whole world[3]. We must try to educate people about the adverse effects of these bad practices of unjustly dumping CIT devices. IT devices and data enters in different organizations and our university as well consume a lot of energy and sometimes it is more than what is displayed on the devices due to older devices. Therefore power efficiency is now given key factor in calculating the efficiency of the data centers. Project Deliverables Increasingly, CIT solutions are used to support University processes. These solutions can streamline University processes and have enormous potential for reducing CA emissions, because they improve the utilization of resources and allow them to be shared. CIT also permits in-depth monitoring of energy consumption and CA emissions throughout the value chain, so University processes and organizational structures can be enhanced accordingly[2]. The potential savings are particularly great in University with extensive, complex supply chains. But CIT can also have a major impact on supporting processes, I. E. Via resource utilization in offices. In University with complex supply chains, efforts focus on reducing transportation. Intelligent transportation systems combine an array of applications to cut fuel consumption by up to 30%, in conjunction with much lower CA emissions ââ¬â but with no loss in service quality. These systems are based on detailed, up-to-the- minute traffic information captured by an extensive network of IT devices and transmitted by telecommunications equipment. Route planners and navigation systems then calculate and continually update the best possible route for vehicles and payloads[3]. The aim is to minimize the distances traveled, and the corresponding time, fuel costs, and to a large extent, CA emissions. Other applications, such as precise satellite RIFF-assisted positioning solutions, enable more efficient utilization of entire vehicle fleets. These technologies can also be applied to water and air transportation; for example, streamlining airfreight operations could reduce fuel consumption by more than 10%. Racing systems, with nationalization through reduced charges, can encourage the use of low emission trucks[l]. Increasingly precise and realistic computer-aided simulation and design tools (CAD) are gradually eliminating or at least minimizing the necessity of physical prototypes. Here too, greater attention can be paid to software- aided energy-saving functions for users. At the level of the vehicles themselves, automatic start- stop functions briefly switch the engine off when the clutch is snagged. Many non-core, cross-industry processes can be positively influenced by ââ¬ËCT. Energy management is a particularly effective approach. Ideally, energy efficiency should be a key consideration from the outset, I. E. When planning and designing new offices and production facilities, giving rise to ââ¬Å"smart buildingsâ⬠. But innovative energy management systems can also be retrofitted at reasonable expense in existing buildings, adjusting the power consumption of lighting, heating and cooling systems in line with actual requirements. For private households, various providers re now developing smart metering and home management systems that comply with the EX. energy efficiency directive by identifying powering systems and opportunities for savings, and by influencing consumer behavior[2]. IT plays a key role in applications of this kind. In practically all businesses, paper consumption could be slashed by greater use of e-mail, e-billing and electronic archiving systems. Especially at large national and international organizations with central archives, automated workflow can dramatically accelerate processes by eliminating physical transportation and the associated traffic[l]. Currently, there are many data centers in the University. Green CIT could realize enormous savings in all of these data centers. Widespread use of state-of-the-art energy-efficient technologies and solutions, such as fertilization, could push the power consumption of data centers down to almost halving it in Just few years [2]. Another crucial factor is load. Servers in well-organized environments with UNIX machines operate at Just 35 to 45% of capacity; with Intel servers, the figure is even lower, at 15 to 30%. On average, only 25 to 40% of data storage capacity is used. Utilization rates an be considerably improved by consolidating servers, storage systems and entire data centers ââ¬â saving a great deal of energy. Fragmented legacy data-center landscapes can be consolidated to Just a few data centers. Outsourcing often plays a major role. An IT service provider, for example, can operate a small number of large, efficient data centers that support multiple customer organizations [3]. It is also possible to make better use of data-center resources, for example, by fertilization and by deploying shared-services solutions. This involves creating logical systems that are independent of the underlying physical assets. Instead of being dedicated to specific purposes, resources are shared and therefore used more efficiently. The ability to intelligently assign and administer resources is a key function within any fertilization solution. It ensures maximum flexibility in resource allocation. When servers are only operating under part load they still consume nearly as much power as fully utilized ones. Fertilization makes it possible to shut down servers that are largely idle, maximizing savings. Another possibility is for enterprises to access networks. Servers can share resources, and state-of-the-art fertilization technology ND standardization can be leveraged to maximize utilization of existing hardware Project Timeline Comparison between the traditional building and the building after modification It is observed that by implementing new model energy-consumption savings at University is around 50% and by using different technology energy-consumption savings at University can be reduce to 25% in comparison to traditional model. Figure 1 : Comparison of Energy consumption between traditional model and new model Figure 2 : Comparison of Energy consumption between traditional model and different model Conclusion The issues of climate change and environmental protection have been debated for decades. Now they have become part and parcel of day-to-day business reality; Universities are accepting responsibility for the CA emissions they cause and are taking action. CIT has, in many ways, a vital role to play. It accounts for about two percent of global CA emissions, which must, and can, be curtailed. In addition, through the intelligent use of CIT solutions to support University processes in other Universities, it can help curb the other 98 % of emissions. The deployment of Green CIT makes a valuable contribution to protecting the environment. Many of the approaches presented in this paper are associated with lower costs, especially those that target energy consumption. They also improve a University image, and noticeably raise students and employee satisfaction. And as policymakers increasingly address climate change, new legislation and regulations on CIT can be expected in the near future. So Universities are well-advised to act now. Some approaches are already being practiced now. Every University has its own unique situation, and the first step should therefore be to analyze it. We have already ascribed possible approaches for University processes, data centers and office environments. Quick wins can be achieved by harvesting ââ¬Å"low-hanging fruitâ⬠, for example by encouraging more energy-efficient use of office equipment or duplex printing. How to cite Twa Task, Papers

Advertisement and Airtel free essay sample
Brands all over the world use celebrities to advertise their products. As early as 1890, actress Sarah Bernhardt appeared on posters for La Diaphane, a famous brand of rice powder at the time (Lehu, 1993). The use of celebrities in advertising is not, therefore, a new phenomenon, but it has become increasingly widespread. Brands like Pepsi have featured stars such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, or even the Spice Girls, with varying impact (Erdogan,1999). Pizza Hut launched its restaurants on the international market with icons that are almost universally recognized, such as Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Pamela Anderson. Some stars have several contracts with different brands: it is estimated that Michael Jordan, who appears in advertisements for Nike, Coke, Wheaties, Mc Donalds, Hanes, Oakley, and Gatorade, has an impact worth about 14 billion dollars on the American economy (Erdogan al. 2001). Similarly, in a single week, French footballer Zinedine Zidane appeared on posters for Dior perfume and Leader Price hard-discount supermarkets, as well as TV ads for Dannon yoghurt. We will write a custom essay sample on Advertisement and Airtel or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Stars have become a vital component of advertising for certain categories of products, like perfume and cosmetics. While celebrity endorsement in advertising is not a new phenomenon, it has certainly become much more widespread over the past twenty years. It has even become common practice for some companies. In fact, consumers have become increasingly keen on celebrities (Masse-Stamberger, 2005): they are interested in people who are well-known simply due to the fact they have appeared on television, ââ¬â like the stars of reality shows ââ¬â, and celebrity magazines are tremendously popular, as people always want to know more about stars lives. The number of celebrities in advertising increased by 60 % between 2000 and 2004 (Neumann, 2006). As a result, in 2004, nearly 700 television advertisements featured celebrities. Alongside this phenomenon, research into the role of celebrities in advertising has also increased since the 1990s (Pringle and Binet, 2005; Erdogan, 1999; Ohanian, 1991). This research more specifically investigates the concept of congruency between celebrity and brand, which is apparently a crucial factor. We shall start by defining terms such as celebrityâ⬠and endorsement and presenting the main models in this field then introduce a two-dimensional analysis of congruency. We shall attempt to define this concept and its antecedents in more detail. We shall then propose a scale for measuring perceived congruency between celebrities and brands. We must first define what we mean by celebrity endorsements in advertising. Firstly, we consider advertising according to an extremely broad definition, in agreement with Pringle and Binet: Everything that has a name on it is advertising. This definition corresponds to consumer perception of advertising. It covers media advertising, as well as sales promotion, sponsoring, direct marketing, etc. As consumers do not generally make any distinction among these forms of communication (Ford-Hutchinson and Rothwell, 2002), it was appropriate to adopt this premise in our study, as we are examining the issue from a consumer standpoint. The term celebrity needs to be defined: according to the Encyclopedie de lââ¬â¢Agora, celebrity is measured by the number of press cuttings and broadcast time devoted to a person and is thus distinguished from fame, which is generated by a persons outstanding work or exemplary life. Of course, a celebrity may be worthy of fame, as was the case of Lindbergh, but the connection is accidental celebrity has nothing to do with merit, it is simply the result of the media attention given to an act or person. According to Glamour Speakers, a Paris communication agency specialized in consulting on the choice of celebrities, a celebrity is a person whose name, face, and voice are spontaneously recognized by a proportion of the general public (â⬠¦) and who is immediately associated with a set of values. This definition corresponds to classic celebrity types, like actors, models, sports personalities, and rock stars â⬠¦ These people maintain their celebrity by appearances in mass media, such as fashion magazines and tabloids, that inform the public about their private lives. Endorsement (sometimes known as Celebrity Marketing) is a phenomenon where celebrities lend their image to brands. Several researchers have attempted to define endorsement over the last twenty years (see Erdogan, 1999). We will use McCrackens definition (1989, p. 10): the celebrity endorser is defined as any individual who enjoys public recognition and who uses this recognition on behalf of a consumer goodà by appearing with it in an advertisementà à ». Celebrity endorsements: a major phenomenon The fees received by celebrities for brand endorsements are very high: American actors Nicole Kidmann and Brad Pitt, as well as golfer Tiger Woods, may receive almost 5 million dollars per contract. In Europe, Z inedine Zidane refuses all proposals below 1. 2 million dollars. Yannick Noah, who recently replaced the footballer as the French publics favorite personality, received 1,100,000 dollars (exclusive of commission on sales) for the new Sloggi underwear campaign. Research has attempted to elucidate the reasons why companies invest so much money in communication featuring celebrities (Erdogan, Baket and Tagg, 2001). There are many reasons (Lehu, 1993), but firstly, it is significant that celebrity endorsements are a way of avoiding anonymity and standing out from the competition in saturated markets. For example, in the cosmetic and perfume industry, new products are being launched all the time. Cosmetic brands can no longer achieve recognition merely due to the intrinsic quality of their products, but do so, above all, by the image they project through their advertising campaigns, generally by featuring movie stars, models, or singers. Celebrities make an impression on consumers. According to Jacques Helleu, artistic director for Channel, it is the only way of making a sufficiently strong impression on consumers memories to trigger a purchase when they are in a sales outlet at a later date (Devilliers, 2004). Beyond this objective of differentiation, it also gives brands an opportunity to focus their positioning in consumers minds. Another interesting example is that of Madrange, a French SME specialized in ham (Maudieu, 2004): recruiting famous actresses, like Veronique Jeannot in 1988, and, particularly, Veronique Genest and Sophie Duez, enabled this brand to develop awareness and a quality image, thus moving up to second position in this market, behind Fleury Michon. Sometimes, celebrity endorsements also give a brand considerable exposure in the press, who are more likely to report on events concerning the brand if the celebrities are present (e. g. brand promotion parties; Erdogan and al. , 2001). The impact on sales is more difficult to assess. In 1998, Fortune magazine estimated Michael Jordans impact on the American economy and, particularly, on brands like Nike and Disney, at 14 billion dollars. Recent advertising campaigns for Sloggi, featuring Yannick Noah, led to a 47% increase in the brands sales on the mens and 5% on the womens market over the past 10 months, which is an excellent result in a declining market (Neumann, 2006). The results of celebrity endorsements are, however, highly variable, as there are many factors involved, including the choice of celebrity, and the quality of the advertising itself, as well as the media programme, or even press relations. This is why it is interesting to understand how endorsement works and identify the decisive factors for its effectiveness. From this perspective, we shall present the main models devised to explain the type of relationship that develops between celebrities and consumers. These models are essential to our understanding of the influence of celebrity on brand perception. The source attractiveness model The attractiveness model assumes that the effectiveness of the message depends on the physical characteristics of the source. A celebrity spokespersons physical attractiveness has a positive impact on brand recall, attitude towards the brand, and purchasing intent (Kahle and Homer, 1985). Here, the endorsers physical attractiveness is assumed to have an influence on the targets acceptance of the advertising, particularly due to the phenomenon of identification. The effectiveness of the message depends on the endorsers similarity, likeableness, and familiarity. While there is no doubt that a celebrity endorser may improve attitude towards advertising and a brand, its impact on purchasing behavior is less clear (Erdogan, 1999). Attractiveness of the source is not the only characteristic of a celebrity to take into account (Friedman and Friedman, 1979) and is mainly significant for brands related to physical appearance (Kamins, 1990). The source credibility model The source credibility model was developed in the 1950s by Hovland and colleagues (Hovland and Weiss, 1951). According to this model, the effectiveness of a message depends on the perceived level of expertise and trustworthiness of an endorser (Ohanian, 1991). â⬠¢ Expertise refers to the extent to which the endorser is perceived as a valid source of information (Erdogan, 1999). It is a matter of determining whether the advertising target perceives the endorser as having a certain level of experience, knowledge, and know-how that makes their recommendation of a product and/or brand credible. Erdogans review of previous literature (1999) indicated that a source perceived as highly credible is more effective and persuasive than a less credible one, as well as inducing a more positive change of attitude towards the brand or product and more changes in behavior. â⬠¢ Trustworthiness refers to the endorsers honesty, credibility, and integrity, as perceived by the target. It is a matter of determining whether the consumer trusts the source for the honest, objective way the information is presented (Ohanian, 1991). Ohanian (1990) developed a three-dimensional scale for assessing a celebrityââ¬â¢s credibility. The three dimensions in this credibility scale are attractiveness, trustworthiness, and expertise. However, as McCracken (1989) and Erdogan (1999) noted, limiting the assessment of an individual to certain dimensions may seem rather restrictive. These models may seem attractive but they have been criticized on several levels (Erdogan, 1999, Bower and Landreth, 2001). They do not properly take into account the multifunctional aspect of certain characteristics of the source and there is no proof that the dimensions examined are the correct ones. However, above all, these models seem incomplete as they do not consider all the significance and perceptions connected to a particular celebrity, merely focusing on certain characteristics of the endorser, so we do not feel they are capable of capturing what a person, as a whole, is capable of contributing to an advertisement. We think that McCrackens meaning transfer model (1989), which includes all the cultural connotations of celebrity, is more suitable, as it explains the endorsement process as a whole. McCrackens meaning transfer model (1989) This model has the advantage of including affective and cognitive aspects. The transfer theory relies on the endorsement process described by McCracken (1989). This process is based on the idea that, in the consumer society, which is organized around culture, celebrities have a shared cultural significance in the eyes of consumers (McCracken, 1986, 1989). McCracken defines this transfer as the translation of the meaning of celebrity to a product or brand, e. g. in advertisements with celebrity spokespersons. Endorsement is effective when an individual who buys and consumes the product appropriates the meaning associated with the celebrity, which has been transferred to the product. Why You Donââ¬â¢t Have to Look Good on Your Resume
Why You Donââ¬â¢t Have to Look Good on Your Resume True or false? ââ¬Å"A resume is supposed to make you look good.â⬠Answer:à FALSE Well, Iââ¬â¢ll concede, itââ¬â¢s only partially false.à Although you want your resume to look good and to portray your job history and accomplishments in a clear and impressive manner, itââ¬â¢s important not to overdo your attempts to impress your reader. The misconception that a resume is supposed to make you look good can lead to mischaracterization of job duties, inflation of accomplishments, and flowery, high-falutin language. à None of those things belong on a resume!à Stick to the truth instead. Example #1:à A client who was applying for development jobs wrote in a bullet that she ââ¬Å"[a]ssisted in organizingâ⬠a conference.à Since I do not like to see the word ââ¬Å"assistâ⬠on a resume (see Words to Delete from Your Resume), I asked her what exactly she did to assist.à It turns out she set up tables and provided registration assistance on the day of the conference, but had no involvement in the planning or organization of the event.à We changed the verb in her bullet to ââ¬Å"Staffedâ⬠ââ¬â a much more accurate description of what this applicant did. Example #2:à A client stated that she ââ¬Å"[p]articipated inâ⬠company meetings.à In actuality, she had organized materials for the meetings and attended them.à We made her language more specific, thus accurately reflecting her activities. Why not stretch the truth just a little? First of all, I never condone lying about anything and always support acting with integrity.à Additionally, if your resume gets you an interview, you could be asked questions about absolutely anything youââ¬â¢ve written.à You donââ¬â¢t want to get caught in even the tiniest lie. Iââ¬â¢m glad I asked my clients questions about their bullets before an interviewer did.à The first client was applying to jobs where she could easily be called upon to organize a conference; if she submitted a resume that overstated her experience in conference organization, it could lead to an embarrassing and deal-killing interview moment.à Similarly, the second client was applying to jobs that entailed numerous meetings, and familiarity with meeting protocol was required.à It was dangerous for him as well to represent his experience inaccurately. When you are creating resume bullet points, and even when you are writing your Summary of Qualifications, make sure to report your activities, qualifications and accomplishments accurately.à Without using impressive or flowery language, you can succeed in writing a resume that makes you look good by clearly and truthfully conveying your accomplishments. As in so many other things, honesty on your resume is the best policy.à Think of the most impressive thing you can truthfully report and let it speak for itself.à Follow this advice and youââ¬â¢ll look good without even trying. Literature on the Environment; the city as text - graffiti as writing Thesis
Literature on the Environment; the city as text - graffiti as writing - Thesis Example An analysis of graffiti as a form of communication will reveal the language of the art as it speaks for the youth of a city in both pictorial and symbolic forms. Graffiti is most often associated with the emergence of artistic expressions that were applied to public surfaces. The growth of its popularity since the 1960ââ¬â¢s was associated with counterculture activities, but by the 1980ââ¬â¢s graffiti artists began to find prominence in art galleries with their work reproduced on canvas and sold as graffiti art. Artists such as Keith Hring and Jean-Michel Basquiat became important artists in the period from their artworks that were defined by the graffiti movement and its defining elements. Graffiti becomes an aesthetic that has definition according to theorists such as Phase2 and Rammellzee and is expanded to include work that is not defined by the location of the work on public surfaces (Chang 153). Graffiti can be termed as a type of writing that is based on signatures and styles and those who go out into the city and communicate using this form of writing call themselves writers. The linguistics are created through a focus on the use of the city as a blank page on which their story is told through symbols and images. This essay will explore the origins of graffiti and the reactions by the public to the evolution of this form of communication, its exclusive nature as it speaks directly to those who know the language and its inclusive nature as it speaks to anyone near enough to see the message, whether it is understood for its actual intent or interpreted through a lens without street knowledge. This essay will focus on the notion of graffiti writing as literature, part of a vital need by city dwellers to write their name and story on the space that surrounds them, recreating the visual construction of the city as a huge text, ever changing and often undecipherable to the unin itiated. In order to explore the idea of graffiti as literature, an

In light of this, Johnson suggests that Dr.Pachauri was perhaps right for being anxious about emissions of methane gas from livestock. Johnson affirms that although Dr.Pachauriââ¬â¢s scrutiny was spot on; his proposition to cut down on meat was ridiculous. Additionally, Johnson (2008) argues that while shunning meat consumption by humans would notably result in decreased methane output; Dr. Pachauriââ¬â¢s recommendation is mistaken as it ignores the pertinent issues at the heart of every environmental problem that presently afflicts the world. Some of these issues include: deforestation, destruction of species, the 1.3 billion people whose livelihoods are reliant on agriculture as well as the persistent human population boom. Currently, the worldââ¬â¢s population is about 6.72 billion and anticipated to rise to 9 billion by 2050. Cows are not the problem; people eating the cows are the problem. Additionally, Johnson also reminds the UN of its historic role which entails: campaigning against global overpopulation, family planning championing for female emancipation, and all the real solutions to worldââ¬â¢s intolerable and excessive population boom. In support of Dr. Pachauriââ¬â¢s proposition that meat production puts more GHGââ¬â¢s than the earthââ¬â¢s entire transport network, Smith et al. (2007, p.501) suggests that agriculture discharges considerable amounts of GHGââ¬â¢s (such as methane-CH4, nitrous oxide-N2O and carbondioxide-CO2) into the atmosphere. CH4 is generated when organic matter putrefies in anaerobic circumstances, especially from fermentative digestion by ruminant farm animals, from stockpiled droppings. This confirms that Dr.Pachauri is perhaps right for being anxious about methane gas emissions from livestock. On the

Great Gatsby And Death Of A Salesman English Literature Essay
Great Gatsby And Death Of A Salesman English Literature Essay Marxism is an ideology that was theorised by Karl Marx that is based on the social and economic processes of class formation in a capitalist society. According to Marx there are two classes namely the bourgeoisie and proletariat. The bourgeoisie or ruling class own and control the means of production. They monopolise the political power and put laws in place in order to protect and further their interests. In this way the beliefs and values will reflect and legitimate their rule. Whereas, the proletariat or working class are dispossessed from making their own livelihood, but are forced to sell their labour for survival. If the dominant classs power is accepted as legitimate by the working class, this is known as false consciousness (Longurst, Smith, Bagnall, Crawford Ogborn, 2008). This ideology became the basis of analysing literature, known as Marxist criticism. Marxist critics approach to literature is based on sociological influences, which means that the texts are the result of whichever historical, economic as well as cultural circumstances they were created in. Texts from whichever epoch reveal the dominate classs ideology, thus making them subjective. (Potter, 2010) The Great Gatsby is a novel written by Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The novel focuses on the lives of the dominant class of a western capitalistic society and how they are shaped by this lifestyle. On the other hand, Death of a Salesman was written by Arthur Miller in 1949. The novel focuses on the life of a family of proletariats and how they are impacted by the bourgeoisies in society. The Great Gatsby does not focus on both economic classes. Instead it focuses on different groups of the dominant class, namely old money and the nouveau riche and as a result this novel reflects the dominant ideology. Although the working class is mentioned, they are ignored for the most part. Old money is represented by East Egg, West Egg represents the nouveau riche and the working class is represented by the Valley of Ashes. The protagonist, Jay Gatsby, is part of the nouveau riche who lives in West Egg. Jay Gatsby moves from being the son of shiftless and unsuccessful farm people (1994 p.105) to becoming the owner of a huge West Egg mansion with a marble swimming pool and over forty acres of lawn and garden (1994 p.11), this shows the possibilities offered by the American dream. Gatsby earns his money through illegal means, which places him in the new money category, and as a result he flaunts by throwing extravagant parties and buying expensive cars. Another reason Gatsby flaunts is to get the attention and win the affection of Daisy, thus treating her as a commodity (Tyson, 2006). Old money, on the other hand, has had money for generations, so they do not flaunt. Old money, people like Tom and Daisy, look down on the nouveau riche, because they got rich quick and, because they are threatening the status quo. Myrtle and George Wilson are working class characters but they have aspirations to move to the upper class. George wants to achieve this through his business. Whereas, Myrtle has an affair with Tom in the hopes that he will eventually marrying her. Both the Wilsons are commodified by the bourgeoisie and disillusioned by the American dream. Myrtles murder is a perfect example of how the bourgeoisie do not suffer the consequences of their actions, because they have money, à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessnessà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ and let other people clean up the mess they made (1994 p.186). One person attends Gatsbys funeral, demonstrating that his attainment of the American dream was only an illusion. Death of a Salesman is also a text that reflects the dominant ideology, but in this case the play is written from the point of view of the working class. Although the dominant class has an effect on the main characters they are largely ignored in the play. Willy Loman, the protagonist, is a worn out travelling salesman on the point of a breakdown. But Willy still believes in the capitalist values and has passed on the hopes of success onto his son Biff. Disillusioned by the dominant ideology, Willy is blind to its destructiveness and is fixated with his plans for Biff. Biff, however, has no intentions in following the plans his father has set out for him and intends to pursue a different path, one that Miller associates with socialist society. His lack of drive to follow conventional success is teaching him, not that he is useless, and but that the business world might not be for him and that he is better off without it. He is trying to understand himself and discover his true identi ty. In the beginning of the play, he was not sure of himself and as a result returned home in an attempt to fulfil his fathers dream. Happy, Willy other son, has a good job and would like to go further. He also has uncertainties about his career but has no way to replace it. (Swets Zeitlinger, 1994) The scene in which Howard, Willys young boss, fires Willy is a perfect example of the logic of the capitalist economic instrument. Willy, in an attempt to avoid failure, appeals to Howards conscience, reminding him the he has been a loyal and long term worker for the company, but to no avail. Although Howard is Willys friend and neighbour, he is a business man and abides by the law of profit making first, business is business (2000 p.63), which is absolute in the capitalist business world. Willy refuses a job offer by Charley because he feels its charity and would destroy his image of himself as a self-reliant individual. Willy failure and Biff similar fate makes Willy reject his son. This shows how capitalist value can distort and destroy a meaningful relationship between father and son. (Swets Zeitlinger, 1994) Willy decides to commit suicide in the hopes that his life insurance payment will enable Biff to rise in the world. But, Biff becomes the only one in the play to understand the destructive nature of capitalist values and pities his father, exclaiming: I cant bear to look at his face! (2000 p.115) Both texts show how in a capitalist society money gives power and those who have money control the power of society. As well as in western capitalist society the upper will inevitably oppress the working class and that the American dream is both an illusion and elusive. This essay has discussed how the two texts differ socioeconomically, using a Marxist criticism approach. Specific reference has been made to Marxism and how it relates to Marxist criticism, the context of both texts by focusing on the time periods as well as how the characters lived. This essay has also looked at the socioeconomic context of The Great Gatsby and Death of a Salesman.

Cash Basis vs. Accrual Basis Accounting
Cash basis accounting predicts a periodic measure of performance that is used to predict future cash flows. This is the difference between cash receipts and cash payments from transactions related to providing goods and services during a reporting period. ââ¬Å"Revenue is recognized when cash is received and expense is recognized when cash is paidâ⬠. (ââ¬Å"Accrual basis accounting,â⬠). ââ¬Å"When transactions are recorded on a cash basis, they affect a company's books only once a completed exchange of value has occurred; therefore, cash basis accounting is less accurate than accrual accounting in the short termâ⬠. (Investopedia, 2013).Accrual accounting doesnââ¬â¢t just focus on cash flows, instead, it also reflects other resources that are provided and consumed by business operations during a period. This method measures resources provided by business operations by revenue. The measure of resources used to earn revenues is expenses. The difference between reven ues and expenses is net income/loss. Accrual basis net income provides a better measure of performance because it attempts to measure the resource inflows and outflows generated by operations during the reporting period, which may not provide the same amount of cash inflows and outflows.Accruals involve transactions where the cash outflow or inflow takes place in a period after the expense or revenue recognition. ââ¬Å"Selling on credit and projects that provide revenue streams over a long period of time affect the company's financial condition at the point of the transaction. Therefore, it makes sense that such events should also be reflected on the financial statements during the same reporting period that these transactions occurâ⬠. (Investopedia, 2013). While cash basis is the difference between cash receipts and cash disbursements from providing goods and services. For cash basis accounting, a transaction happens only when money is exchanged. ââ¬Å"Revenues are reported o n the income statement when cash is received from the customers. Expenses are reported on the income statement when cash is paid out. This is one of the problems with cash basis accounting because adjusting entries help ensure that all revenues earned in a period are recognized in that same period, regardless of when cash is receivedâ⬠. (Averkamp, 2004). For accrual basis accounting, ââ¬Å"revenues are recorded on the income statement when they are earned, which more often than not occurs before cash is received.Expenses are recorded on the income statement in the period when they occur/expire which is often in a different period from when the payment is made. This method of accounting provides a better picture of the companyââ¬â¢s profits during an accounting period because the income statement will report all of the revenues actually earned during the period and all of the expenses incurred in order to earn the revenues. This method also helps because it reports all the a ssets that were earned are reported and all the liabilities that were incurred are reportedâ⬠. (Averkamp, 2004).

The Rise and Fall of Communism ââ¬Å"Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win, workingmen of all countries, unite!â⬠(Karl Marx). This quote is one of the most famous political slogans excerpted from the book Communist Manifesto, which was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It demonstrates Marxââ¬â¢s opinion on social classism and how he is against it by stating the imbalance between the working class and the ruling class. The quote ends with a rallying cry and call for the unity of all workers to rebel and demand for their own rights. The book Communist Manifesto is based on the idea of socialist theory. According to the Oxford Online Dictionaries, socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole (www.oxforddictionaries). I n other words, it is a political system where the means of production is controlled by the government rather than individuals or private companies. It is described by Marx as the ââ¬Å"first and lower phase of communismâ⬠.
